The invasive gall wasp Leptocybe invasa (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae) induces galls on the shoots of Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnh. and E. tereticornis Sm. and damage nursery seedlings young plantations and coppice shoots. The magnitude of the damage in nurseries and young plantations necessitates increased efforts to reduce the incidence and impacts of the pest. Identification of feasible and appropriate management methods will help in reducing the high cost of containing the pest in outbreak situations and avoid loss of planting material by state Forest Departments, Corporations and farmers while raising commercial Eucalyptus plantations. Deployment of gall tolerant clones and biological control agents has been attempted in the present study. Results show that eucalyptus gall wasp in nurseries can be managed by deploying identified gall tolerant, productive clones. Release of natural enemies like Quadrastichus mendeli and Megastigmus sp and regular monitoring of its population level in nurseries can further bring down the gall infestation.Keywords

The phenomenal growth of Private Life Insurers within a short period owes much to the diversified channel they have used for selling policies. The bancassurance channel was the major one the insurers exploited when they started operations in India. The period 2005-2010 was marked (or is it marred) by tie-up frenzy in the Insurance space wherein insurers were head over heels looking for bancassurance partners. The paper examines a Business analysis proposition of one such banker looking for a new suitor in insurance for a possible tie-up, by going back in time by a few years.Further, the paper examines and explains the mine-field of parameters to be looked into even to short-list a few insurers and match it, by analytically codifying it. The difficulty to do an equivalency chart of comparison and then to decide is explained thread-bare, which is a challenge for any business analyst. Needless to say the setting of the insurance industry, the practices that prevailed then and the short-termism of the interest groups is captured vividly. How such decisions unfolded in the macro scene in the form of 'unit-linked insurance plan (ULIP) fiasco' which is the largest rip-off in the financial services sector history of the country is clearly captured in the paper. The evaluation of the Insurance tie-ups and how the short-term commercial considerations played out in the macro scene in the form of a 'catastrophe' of a mis-selling scam, has high relevance and learning for Regulators and Public Finance/Policy experts. In short, a learning on how to smell 'rat'.

The present account from Kallar elephant corridor is a case-history which elucidates that delay in implementing management recommendations leads to unmanageable trends in land-use pattern, traffic intensity, human–elephant interface, and escalation of costs for management options like land acquisition and engineering structures as flyovers or ‘elephant underpass’. Ultimately, a situation may develop where elephants may take their own course of population reduction, fragmentation and shifting of interface problem to new areas.Keywords

We are in the era of growing and developing technologies, where immersive technology is one among them. Immersive technology is designed using a computer program, also known as interactive technology, which is being used worldwide. It replicates real world in digital form. Immersive technology has a wide range of tools which include Virtual Reality (VR), Augment Reality (AR) and Mixed Reality (MR). These technologies allow the person to feel that they are actually present within the environment. This can be achieved through motion capturing such as body postures and gestures that are used for interacting within the environment. Several attempts are made to use these technologies in businesses such as Manufacturing process and Advertisement Industries to promote new products. Currently, many industries started experimenting with VR, but still hesitate to fully commit. On the other hand, many are interested in the state of being free from tension and anxiety, but do not want to put into financial schemes on the technology’s hardware. The paper pays attention to the challenges involved in using this Interactive technology in commercial activity successfully.Keywords
